Composition per liter:

Urea...................................................................20.0g

Yeast extract........................................................0.1g

Na2HPO4 .........................................................0.095g

KH2PO4...........................................................0.091g

Phenol Red........................................................0.01g

pH 6.9 ± 0.2 at 25°C

dium from BD Diagnostic Systems.

Preparation of Medium: Add components to

distilled/deionized water and bring volume to 1.0L.

Mix thoroughly. Filter sterilize. Aseptically distrib

ute into sterile tubes or flasks.

Use: For the differentiation of members of the Enter

obacteriaceae based on the rapid detection of urease

activity. Urease-positive bacteria turn the medium

cerise.
